Unit One -- Web Quests and Independent Study
In this unit, students will create a baseline for their research skills for the year. They will use a template to create a Web quest to share with a classmate about some interest they have. This is an opportunity for students get to know each other as well as show what skills they already have using computers and researching.

Students will begin their exploration of computer science be completing Code.org's Course Three.

In this unit, students will combine their knowledge of math, history, technical writing, and speaking and listening to create a board game.

Students will focus on informational reading, interpretation of documents, and the classical world. Through shared and individual research and writing workshop, students will explore what they feel is the single most important contribution from the classical world to the modern world.

In sixth grade, students read Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt by Elizabeth Payne in the regular English classroom. Their unit summative assessment is to compare the leadership styles of a pharaoh to a great, contemporary leader. This mini-unit will take the discussion a step further, adding debate (a necessary leadership skill) and a more in-depth leadership study.
Unit Five -- Mystery Writing
Students will study the genre of mystery in depth and write their own mystery short stories.
